The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources reports that by the end of the day Monday hunters and trappers had taken 95 wolves in the first week of the state’s second official season — a pace faster than expected — prompting the closure of one of six zones for the remainder of the season. The majority of the wolves taken have been caught in leg-hold traps and then killed, the DNR said.
